!F Index™

At !F, creativity is capital. And like any capital, where and how it gets invested matters. Every project demands something valuable: time, talent, energy, attention and belief. That’s why !F developed the !F Index™, a proprietary framework for evaluating the true value of every project, opportunity and partnership.

Instead of measuring success only by financial returns, the index considers the different currencies a project can generate, balancing what makes !F PAID with what makes !F PROUD.

TO BE PAID

Dollars. Euros. Wons. Pounds. Ownership.

Financial value comes in different forms. Sometimes it’s a fee. Sometimes it’s a share of the profits. Sometimes it’s equity in a company that doesn’t even exist yet. What matters isn’t just how much a project pays today, but how much value !F can participate in creating tomorrow.

TO BE PROUD

Joy. Growth. Reputation. Impact.

Some of the most valuable returns never appear on a balance sheet. The joy of creating something extraordinary. The growth that comes from exploring unfamiliar territory. The reputation earned by doing work worth remembering. And the impact of making something that genuinely changes people’s lives, businesses or culture.

These aren’t consolation prizes for projects that don’t pay. They’re different forms of wealth that can compound over time.

WARNING: An unnecessarily long explanation of who we are, what we believe, and why we can’t seem to shut up about it. You have better things to do. We understand.

We believe
Because
01Company

The World Doesn’t Have a Creativity Problem. It Has a Value Problem.

For decades, we helped companies communicate better. Today, we believe the bigger problem is different: companies waste value every day without realizing it.

Ideas become campaigns when they could become products. Communities become followers when they could become ecosystems. Brands build trust but rarely turn it into new businesses. Companies are full of talent that never gets used.

We call this Creative Waste: value that already exists but is never realized.

!F exists to find that hidden value and turn it into assets that keep growing long after the project ends.

02Company

Creative Capital Is Not Creativity. It’s Accumulated Judgment.

Most companies sell creativity. We invest Creative Capital.

That capital didn’t start when we founded !F. It was built over decades of working with some of the world’s leading brands, leaders and organizations.

Every project added something more valuable than revenue: judgment, taste, patterns, trust, relationships and the ability to recognize opportunities before they become obvious.

A venture capital fund invests accumulated money. We invest accumulated creative judgment.

03Company

Creativity Belongs Before Business, Not After It.

Creativity is still invited in too late.

Usually, the product already exists, the strategy has been approved and all that’s left is to communicate it.

We believe creativity creates more value when it’s there from the beginning.

When it helps a founder decide what company to build. When it shapes the product, culture and business model. Sometimes even the category itself.

Our job isn’t to make companies look more interesting. It’s to help build more interesting companies.

04Company

We Built the Operating System Before Naming the Company.

Before launching !F, we wanted to test the idea first. No presentations. No manifestos.

The same operating system was quietly applied to very different challenges.

We helped build Nassr FC’s belief system during a historic season; collaborated with Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlo Ancelotti and global brands; helped shape a new international sports franchise; became co-producers of a film shot between China and the US, and another in Brazil; and started developing ventures, products and a school for Creative Entrepreneurship.

Different countries. Different industries. Different problems. The same operating system.

Only after turning IFs into ITs did we decide to launch !F.

05Company

We Assemble Creative Capital, Not Creative Teams.

In the past, we built a Casa because we believed creativity needed an extraordinary space.

Years later, the biggest lesson is that the space was never the walls. It was the people.

That’s why !F doesn’t depend on traditional offices. Our most important asset isn’t real estate. It’s relationships.

Depending on the challenge, we bring together creatives, filmmakers, choreographers, journalists, strategists, scientists, artists and entrepreneurs from a global network.

We don’t just build teams. We build unexpected combinations. Because innovation often happens between disciplines, not inside them.

06Company

We’ve Never Sold an Idea Created by AI. Not One.

AI is part of how we work every day: as a researcher, strategist, editor, provocateur and brainstorming partner.

But it hasn’t replaced imagination. It’s created more room for it.

By dramatically reducing the time spent on research, organization and exploration, we can invest more energy in what remains deeply human: judgment, taste, courage and the ability to ask the right questions.

The advantage isn’t using more AI. It’s using AI to think better.

07Company

The Future Belongs to Companies That Waste Less Potential.

For decades, companies focused on wasting less: less time, less money, fewer resources.

Today, we believe one of their biggest sources of waste is potential.

Great ideas that never get made. Talent that is underused. Trust that could become new businesses. Intellectual property stuck in presentations. Communities treated as audiences instead of partners.

At !F, our job is to find that hidden potential and turn it into value. Because what’s being overlooked today could become a company’s biggest source of growth tomorrow.

08Company

The Best Way to Beat Bigger Competitors Is to Change the Game.

Smaller brands rarely win by spending more. They win by competing differently.

Liquid Death didn’t create better water. It created a cultural universe. Michelin didn’t create a restaurant guide to enter the food business. It created one to get people driving more. Airbnb didn’t build hotels. It changed the definition of hospitality. Even UFC legend Georges St-Pierre brought a scientist into his corner instead of simply adding another coach.

Being the best at the same game requires enormous resources. Changing the game requires creativity and courage.

That’s what we look for: not a way to invest more of the same, but a different way to compete.

09Company

We Don’t Want to Be the Best Creative Company. We Want to Become an Asset.

Our ambition was never to build another service company. We want to build an asset.

Today, !F invests accumulated Creative Capital in brands, founders and organizations. Tomorrow, that same capital can go into our own companies and businesses where we share in the value we help create.

The ultimate goal is for our biggest clients to one day be ourselves.

Because we believe the future of creative companies isn’t just about selling creativity. It’s about owning a part of the value that creativity creates.

Optimism Is Our Greatest Competitive Advantage.

People often ask why we left. They assume it was about independence. Or money. It wasn’t. It was about protecting something much more valuable: our optimism.

For twenty years, our careers have been built on believing impossible things could happen. When we opened AKQA São Paulo, we announced three rules: No pitches. No media buying. No work on weekends.

People literally bet on how long we’d survive. The industry had already decided what was possible. We hadn’t.

Looking back, almost everything meaningful we’ve built started with someone saying: “That won’t work.” And us thinking: “Let’s find out.”

11Hugo & Diego

Naivety Is an Underrated Business Skill.

“Naive” is usually an insult. We think it’s a competitive advantage.

The more experienced you become, the easier it is to stop asking beginner’s questions and start repeating successful answers.

Our job is to protect that sense of possibility. To enter every project believing there might be a better way.

Not because we ignore reality. Because reality has always been rewritten by people naive enough to question it.

12Hugo & Diego

We’re Not Trying to Fill Our Pockets. We’re Trying to Fill Our Careers.

Money matters. It gives us freedom. But some projects pay well and slowly empty you. Others remind you why you became creative in the first place.

We’re interested in the second kind. Brands that mean something. Products people genuinely love. Companies brave enough to take risks. Ideas that leave the world a little less predictable than they found it.

We’re not chasing more work. We’re chasing work that gives us more. And more often than not, better work creates better business anyway.

13Hugo & Diego

Less Process. More Progress.

We didn’t leave because we disliked corporate life. We left because too much energy was being spent protecting decisions instead of making them.

Meetings. Layers. Processes. Approvals. Committees. Each one made sense on its own. Together, they slowly consumed the one thing creativity needs most: Momentum.

The goal wasn’t less responsibility. It was fewer obstacles between an idea and reality.

14Hugo & Diego

Ownership Changes Behaviour.

When you’re paid to deliver a presentation, you optimize the presentation. When you have a stake in what happens next, you optimize the outcome.

That’s why ownership matters. It changes the conversation. It changes the incentives. It changes the decisions.

Ownership turns creativity from a service into a shared investment.

15Hugo & Diego

Great Ideas Are Built by Hungry Teams, Not Big Teams.

People often assume Dove Real Beauty Sketches succeeded because it had a huge budget. The opposite was true.

The budget was tight. The team was small. And much of what happened in front of the camera couldn’t be controlled. Real people. Real emotions. Real reactions. That forced us to obsess over what we could control: the people we chose to work with.

Among the directors considered were people with extraordinary résumés. Some had Emmys. Others had bigger reputations. We chose someone else.

Not because he had the most awards, but because he had the emotional language the film needed. He was hungry. He looked for solutions instead of explaining problems.

That experience changed how we think about teams. The quality of a project is rarely determined by how many people you put in the room. It’s determined by who you invite into it.

Mocha Pudding

You made it to the end. Here’s your reward.

A note

“Thank you for reading all this blah, blah, blah from my son Hugo and that lovely Diego. You must be hungry by now, so here’s a recipe straight from my personal cookbook.

I’m sorry I can’t bake it for you myself, but I’ve written down every step so you can give it a try.

Good luck, and enjoy!”

Hugo’s mum’s handwritten recipe card for Pudim Moka, in Portuguese, next to a newspaper clipping.
Ingredients

400 g of sugar, 10 eggs, 400 ml of milk, 75 g of instant coffee (preferably decaffeinated), 8 sheets of gelatine and approximately 250 g of whipped cream for decoration.

Preparation
  1. This pudding requires a large mould, such as a traditional savarin or ring-shaped mould.
  2. Begin by soaking the gelatine sheets in cold water.
  3. In a saucepan, mix the sugar with the instant coffee, followed by the egg yolks. Stir continuously over a low heat until the mixture becomes creamy.
  4. While stirring, add the boiling milk and then allow the mixture to cool.
  5. Return it to a medium heat for approximately six or seven minutes, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon to prevent it from sticking to the bottom. The recipe notes that bringing the mixture to a gentle boil is acceptable, provided the cooking time is not exceeded.
  6. Remove from the heat and add the softened gelatine sheets. Stir thoroughly until completely dissolved and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  7. Beat the egg whites until very stiff, then carefully fold them into the mixture.
  8. Pour into the mould and refrigerate for several hours until set.
  9. To unmould, gently loosen the edges with a knife and, if necessary, briefly dip the outside of the mould into warm water.
  10. Decorate with whipped cream.
  11. Whipped cream: I suggest whipping 200 g of cream with 50 g of sugar.
